                                                                    The Kate Torpedo Bomber 

Nakajima B5N2 type 97 Japanese Carrier attack bomber  The allies code names this aircraft KATE. This aircraft is more widely remembered as a a torpedo bomber. The Kate had a crew of two. (pilot and tail gunner) It's top speed was 235 mph.  

        

The Japanese "Kate" Torpedo bomber in two different paint schemes. The carrier based aircraft were used at Pearl Harbor with  devastating results. 

          

 

These "Kate's" Were used in the filming of movies "Tora, Tora, Tora" and "Pearl Harbor" 

 

                                                                            P-40 Tomahawk

The Curtis P-40 was made famous by the Flying Tigers. They were the American volunteer force fighting the Japanese in China.  Although the Japanese Zero was a better fighter the Flying Tigers were able to use tactics and flying skill to their advantage against the Japanese. The P-40B had four forwad firing machine guns and could make a maximium speed of 352 mph. (567 km/h)  The P40 had a range of 940 miles (1513 km).

The P-47 Thunderbolt

The P-47 was armed with eight forward firing 50 caliber machine guns. It could carry rockets and bombs and was as excellent at ground attack as it was flying escort missions. The P-47 had a top speed of 435 mph (700 km/h) and a maximum range of 1725 miles (2776 km)

             

    

The P-47 Thunderbolt.  Nicknamed "The flying milk jug" by it's pilots. This Aircraft was tough and rugged.  It earned the the affection of it's pilots and the respect of it's enemies. 

 

                    The North American P-51 Mustang

The Mustang had six forward firing 50 caliber machine guns. It was capable of caring bombs and rockets. Maximum speed was 437 mph (703 km/H) with a range of 2301 miles (3703 km).  The P-51 equipped with drop tanks was able to escort bombers to Berlin and back.  The P-51's and P-47's turned the tide against the Axis by achieving air superiority in Europe. 

   

   

 

The P-51 Mustang was initially produced for the British Government under contract.  The marriage of the North American airframe to the 16 cylinder Rolls Royce Merlin engine produced the best allied fighter of WWII.

C-47 Skytrain

Work horse of the WW-II had many variants the Basic troop model could seat up to 27 or take 10,000 Lbs of cargo.  The military version of the DC-3 was widely used.  This aircraft is pained with "D-Day" invasion stripes.  

 

 

 

 

The "C-47 A" model had two 1200 HP radial engines. Cruising speed was 185 mph. at 10,000 ft.  Maximum speed was 230 MPH (370 km/h) at 7,500 ft. and had a maximum range of 1600 miles (2575 km)
