Full House

The Island of Tinian is located in the Northern Mariana Islands about 150 km North of Guam and just a 2 km south of the island of Saipan. In 1944, before the island had been secured, American Seabees began rebuilding the captured Japanese air strip on the north end of the island. It was one of largest engineering projects of WWII. In less than one year North Field Tinian was the largest airfield in the world, with four vast 2,600 - meter runways. A total of 19,000 combat missions were launched against Empire of Japan from this island.
To carry the huge quantities of bombs up from the port at San Jose, two divided highways were built across Tinian. Since the island was shaped something like Manhattan, the GIs gave the roads names like Broadway, 8th Ave., and 86th street.
